Suspected ISIS Cell Found In Hyderabad, Techie, Brother Detained
HYDERABAD:
A suspected ISIS cell allegedly run by a software engineer and his brother has been uncovered in Hyderabad during searches by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) following intel inputs of a terror plot.
Eleven people were taken into custody after raids on Wednesday at the old quarters of the I-T city.
Sources say among them is a pair of brothers, a software engineer and a computer graduate. A third man is a graduate.
The NIA and the police launched the search after reports of a plan for multiple terrorattacks in Hyderabad.
The police say weapons, explosives and 15 lakhs in cash have been seized in the raids. Material like ammonium nitrate and hydrogen peroxide - which indicate a plan to assemble bombs - was also found.
"Searches are being conducted over some suspected terror activities that were planned to be carried out in the city," an officer was quoted by the Press Trust of India as saying.
The raids come at a time when parts of the city are under prohibitory orders because of a strike by lawyers that has been on for over three weeks.
At the start of the year, 14 people suspected to be sympathisers of the ISIS were picked up from across the country in an anti-terror operation by the NIA. Two of the suspects were arrested in Hyderabad.
