Heavy rains across India: Uttarakhand worst hit with 34 dead, IMD warns of next 72 hours

IMD has warned of heavy to very heavy rains in Himachal and Uttarakhand in next 72 hours. The heavy monsoon current is expected to progress to many parts of North India in next 48 hours.


Heavy rains continued to pound the hilly areas of Uttarakhand on Friday. The death toll has reached to 34 with 25 in Pithoragarh and 9 in Chamoli, Uttarkashi. The heavy rainfall has led to landslides and blocked roads in Chamoli.
HORRORS OF 2013 REVISITED
According to officials, a cloud burst in Pithoragarh inundated the entire region, causing problems and inconvenience to the people. Mobile networks has stopped working in the affected areas. Even the helpline line numbers are not reachable.
The mishap, which is being compared to the one 2013, has already washed away several houses and fields. In Suva village of the Dharchula area large tracts of agriculture fields and three small bridges have been washed away.
Water level in Ganga with 293 metres is just below the danger mark of 294 metres, Haridwar.  
HIMACHAL
Heavy rains have been lashing the valley of Himachal Pradesh, too. While there is no report of casualties till now, the MET department has issued alert of heavy rainfalls in next two days.  
TELANGANA
Two were reported to be washed away in gushing water of a local rivulet in Telangana. Heavy rainfalls have been reported in several districts of the state, including Hyderabad and Warangal.
Mulakalapalle in Khammam district recorded the highest with 16 cm rainfall. Temple town Bhadrachalam ahs been flooded with rain water. Production of 8,000 tonnes of coal from the open cast mines of the Bhupalapalli area of Warangal was affected with the flooding of mines.

IMD has warned of heavy to very heavy rains in Himachal and Uttarakhand in next 72 hours. The heavy monsoon current is expected to progress to many parts of North India in next 48 hours. Himalayan foothills to get heavy rainfall in next 3-4 days.
